Protest over water shortages-Nagarote
The women were animated and outraged around me but when the mayor came out to select the ´community representatives` from the surrounding poor neighborhoods were the municipal water supply doesn`t reach, a line of men quickly formed and marched through the assembled mass and into the negotiation room. Typically, the women`s presence was appreciated but when it was time to sit down and make decisions, they stayed behind. I overheard some women making similar comments. Ugh. needless to say, we`re still out of water for the majority of the day. Here in the town center (where my Center and home are) it`s out during the day but comes on at night -when we all fill up buckets for the following day, however in the neighborhoods where our Project kids come from, it`s not arriving at all. Nagarote, part of the Pacific basin, is dry and scorched during the summer months and now, in the midst of a serious water crisis.
